It’s no secret that winter is not always the easiest time to keep your house and garden in good condition. All that means that a cleaning and maintenance schedule is something you might be considering (or even implementing) for your home and garden. In which case, you might be wondering, how do you keep your metal gates and railings clean too?
Well, happily the answers are pretty straightforward.
What your wrought iron metal gates need to stay clean in winter
When you buy wrought iron gates or railings from us here at SL Wrought Iron, we typically recommend a galvanised finish. That gives it a high degree of resistance to weather elements – even the harshest winter ones. All that means that you can mostly leave it to withstand the elements with complete peace of mind.
However, if you still think it might need a bit of a spruce up, then you can simply wipe most dust and contaminants off with a soft cloth. If that’s not shifted it, you can apply diluted soapy water using a soft sponge or soft, non-abrasive cloth. Then all you need to do is rinse it with water.
Another option is to power wash the railing or gate, but you’ll need to ensure you use a gentle setting. If you apply too much pressure, or go too close, then you may end up damaging the finish. By the same token, you’ll always need to avoid using harsh chemicals and solvents for your wrought iron gates or railings. They’re unnecessarily strong, and they can end up stripping away the finish – which will likely end up leaving yours looking far worse for wear than it would have before you’d started!
With proper maintenance, they can have a lifespan of over 70 years, so they’ll literally last a lifetime.
