What type of railings should you choose for your home?

  • Post category:General

When it comes to choosing some wrought iron railings for your home, it can sometimes be an overwhelming process. There are so many options to choose from that it can be hard to know where to begin. Don’t worry though – here at SL Wrought Iron, we have over 30 years of experience and understand the intricacies of making the right decision. So whether you’re a first-time buyer or you’d just like some help consolidating your options, we’ve pulled together a list of things to consider that will help you make an informed decision and choose the ideal railings for your home.

Think about the perimeter of your home

First things first – consider the perimeter of your home. Are you looking to replace your current fencing with something studier, long-lasting and more stylish, or are you looking for some wrought iron railings to give your porch and steps those final finishing touches? Maybe you’re looking to add a little more height to the walls outside your house. All these different scenarios will all require different solutions and different railing styles.

If you’re looking to add height to your wall on the other hand, you’ll require wall-top railings like our Wilpshire Wall Top Railing, for example. And if you’re looking to add some extra security to the permitter of your home and replace your fencing, then a style such as our Belthorn Fencing is what you need. We even offer varying height options so you can get the security you need. We’d recommend something flat-topped like our Chatburn Fencing to give your porch and steps that finishing touch.

Pick the perfect style

One helpful approach we always recommend to our customers is considering how certain styles will complement the rest of your property. What kind of impression do you want to convey to visitors or passersby? Are you looking for something sophisticated and luxurious like our Ribchester Fencing. or a more chic and minimalist aesthetic like our Whalley Fencing? We have various stylish options here at SL Wrought Iron, from classic to contemporary. We even offer bespoke custom railings, so nothing is off the table if you have something specific in mind.

Taking time to narrow down your options can be hugely helpful in refining your vision and finding the perfect railings to suit your needs. Our railings are supplied with a 10 year warranty, and can last up to 70 years, making them capable of literally lasting a lifetime!

Choose the right finish for you

At SL Wrought Iron, we offer all of our meal railings with a galvanised and powder-coating. In a nutshell, this finish is the best option for ensuring your metal railings last as long as possible. The galvanising treatment involves immersing the steel in a bath of molten zinc at temperatures of up to 499 degrees Celsius. This process enables the liquid zinc to alloy itself with the surface of the gate, producing a lustrous silver finish that is impervious to rust. After it’s been dipped, it gets sprayed with powder paint (hence the powder coating), giving it the stunning deep finish we all know and love. This process takes the vast majority of the maintenance out of the railing. You won’t need to repaint it again. At most, it may need a gentle wipe down every so often to keep it looking shiny and new!

Apart from galvanised and powered coating, we also offer our railings on a primed basis. Most of our customers opt for the galvanised coating as far less maintenance and miles more convenient in the long run. However, if you’d like the freedom to paint your railings any colour, this is the finish for you. It is worth noting that they will need repainting every year or so, but if that’s not too much of a concern, then you’re all set!
