What does Baroque mean?
The Baroque movement was a cultural and artistic movement that spread throughout Europe from the early 17th to the mid-18th century. The term “baroque” originated from the Portuguese word “barocco,” which means irregular pearl or stone. The Baroque style is characterised by its dramatic, opulent, and detailed features, which inspired the creation of the ornate gates that we now see adorning many period properties and churches. The style is very much inspired and influence by the last prominent art style to come before: the Renaissance.
